Early October Colors

It reached 65° here this morning and wasn't raining so I grabbed my scarf, gloves, hat and jacket and took Buggy out with the camera.

I know there will be muddy puddles to avoid but the air felt clear and I need some. It has been very difficult these last two weeks without my eyeglasses and I took pictures anyway. My new lenses had better come in soon because it is frustrating to use the camera without good eyesight! I had to leave the old glasses as I didn't want the expense of new frames. Now I regret that!

First are the wild turkeys... they gobbled at me and I gobbled back. It was fun! If you look closely you will see that they are where they are due to bird feeders nearby. Soon after I took the photos, they ran up into the woods behind the home.

The rest are shots of nearby trees and bushes that have some color but not at all like their usual burst of glory.

Blogger had something gone askew and my individual images won't upload so.....I made a short slide show!

Drastic Change of Images

First of all, since I'm still healing and not out and about as much as last year, I'm testing myself with new ways to change images on the computer. Yes, I know — I sit too much. I did take a short ride but everything is dust-covered  and dull and dried out (like me) and that buggy ride was a fail.

After going into the catacombs of this computer I found two old images with which to work. I killed them but did learn a few new techniques with trial and error. The end result isn't awful but it isn't my favorite either.

If you look it in larger size the iridescence comes through.
Yesterday I made a slide show with the laptop application. I do not like this application. The one on the big iMac is easier to use and understand - or maybe it is me?  BUT that computer is no longer able to connect to the internet as its general system is so old. Its sound system is the best ever for playing my music files though. Well, I was finally able to upload the 'iffy' slide show to my personal YouTube channel. The images I used are some of the ones my neighbor at the lake took and they struck me as inspiring and lovely views. Yes, she did give me permission to use her images. It's not my best work but not my worst. I think if you click on the link you will be able to view it.

Nature Photos in Slide Shows

I haven't submitted any of my photos to our NE Regional TV station since *November, but thought this one of the flowering trees had merit. Much to my pleasure it was used in the Friday evening slide show along with many others that were so appropriate for this time of year. Mike Stevens, who hosts and creates this section of the program once suggested to me to try to get photos that don't have man-made things in the background unless they directly relate to the subject being photographed. I'm really an amateur with an eye for nature so this has helped my images be more pleasing, I think!

Some Vintage Things

This is a long video (about 9 minutes) and identification of the images can be found in the upper left corner. I have been trying to document with photos (some old images and some newer ones) the objects that surround us here in Cabin Tranquillity. I use almost all of the kitchen utensils and enjoy doing things the "old way." Most of the items are considered to be "vintage" (older than 20 years) and there are a couple of them that are over 100 years - you might call them antique. I am not a collector, I'm an accumulator and a saver. Most of these have been passed down through my family.

August 2018 Cleanup 2nd Version

I am still learning and experimenting with newer system changes for slide shows and movies. This one shows the entire images and uses no Ken Burns effect of images moving in and out to viewer. That effect cuts of some top and bottom parts of original image.

Green is the Color of May

Made a short slide show of my rideabout today.
Remembering times of the past years when I would ride around on horseback. Thinking of old friends.

Thirsty Hummingbird

Each picture is an individual shot. None were used more than once in this slide show. It drank, came up for air, drank some more - over and over and over again! The last picture is one I took yesterday. Today it stayed long!

Two days of beautiful blooms and now rain expected for a few. OK. I'll read everybody's recent blog posts and then bring out a book.

No and Yes to Bird's Nests

Prologue:
Ten years ago, when The Mister was recuperating from his heart surgery in May and June, I watched, from my kitchen window in the cabin, a robin build her nest in the carport. I soon saw 4 little eggs. Then, I saw 4 little heads peeking up with mouths opened wide. I saw Momma bird feed those 4 little barenaked babies. I watched their fuzz turn to feathers. One day I saw a big crow take the last one away in his ugly bill. Boy did that make me angry! Too late for any of them to be saved. I know we shouldn't interfere with nature, but DARN!

The cabin carport used to be a favorite spot for robins to raise their families every spring. That year I watched a particular pair and their nest from beginning to end and the end was so awful that I have tried to deter them from making nests there. You see, the crow found the nest and killed the little recently hatched babies right before my eyes! Never again will they do that where I can see.

BUT! Birds and their nests and the little ones NEED to be seen sometimes. My friend in SC shared her series of Springtime discoveries of a grandchild. I made the video to remember how wonderful it is.
