Good Fences #10

Sometimes good fences need replacement. The wear and tear of the sun, salt water, winds and sand wear them down quickly. Actually, I like the distressed look! Splinters in bare feet are optional. The walkway is very warped and worn.

Rubbish Tuesday #4

Way out in the hinterland of the SC campground, within a fenced-in area, lies broken and worn out stuff. I call it the garbage dump and don’t like even knowing it is there. There must be another way now to dispose of broken chairs, bikes, picnic tables. It doesn’t seem to have grown larger for several years. The good thing - many birds and much wildlife flourish in there because they are seldom disturbed.

I took these pictures through a hole in the locked gate.

Good Fences #9

Many permanent residents in the campground chain and padlock their golf carts when they aren't here. Most of us have small modulars or park model trailers and leave the carts right in the yard. Some use a cable and lock, and almost everyone locks them. Not many have really large homes or garages.

This owner has the only one that is protected in this way.

Maybe this is why. They might have seen what could happen if it wasn't locked in! I have personally seen this sight several times in the past 15 years; usually during "Spring break." One was in the ocean!

Peonies & Green Things

Now it is peonie time. They are very pretty and have a great fragrance.

A neighbor had these in a vase and asked me to identify the green things.  I think they are "Green Trick" Dianthus Barbathus. They are a new and striking variety!

Kniphofia Flower Time-Lapse

This video is one I found on You Tube. I like it.
I know it has been a few days since I posted. The WiFi in the campground bit the dust for a while and left me stranded. These things happen. So I went swimming instead. Yes, it is nice now.

What I wanted to show you was my shots (only took 2) of this interesting flower. I had never seen it before and it was in an old pot that was also filled with weeds. The place looked abandoned. There are several like that here.

I researched it and found it is called the Red Hot Poker. There are NO MORE in this campground. I have looked everywhere.

Pretty, eh?

Magnificent Magnolias

Yesterday these essential southern plants showed mostly large glossy leaves and buds. Today before the heavy rains and winds hit I managed to capture their full large blossom beauty. Now the open blossoms are torn apart and only fallen petals remain.

Personally, I favor the white variety over the pink. When the sweet magnolia tree's fragrance fills the air you know you're in the South!

Good Fences #8

On October 3, 2013 I spied these egrets through the rope fence. There are many rope fences in the SC campground where we stay. There are many more rope fences near the beach walkways.

There are also strong metal fences at the other end of the campground where recreational activities are enjoyed by many.

Buds and Berries

Cactus blooms here

If you could avoid the thorns a Bagful of berries would be nice to eat. They grow in the sand throughout the cactus.
