Winter's Woe is Me

Cantankerous! Yes, I am that!  I really don't know why except I'm sooo tired of winter and cold and needing ambition. By ambition, I mean doing things that need doing here and which are staring me in my face and are not getting done - like vacuuming and window washing. Phooey - Bah - Humbug. So I got out the vacuum cleaner and it is still sitting in the dining room. I might just give it a kick and feel better. Photos today didn't even help but I AM pleased that the big snow event skipped here! And the sun is out!

The front storm door has pretty frosting. What that really means is that cold is sneaking in between the cabin door and the storm door. Oh well... Every once in a while I open it as a safety procedure just to be sure it will function if needed.

P.S. temperature was -6° at 8am!

Tickled Pink

She has been a joy and a thrill to watch and nourish. If you were here, you might even hear our conversations. Soon she will be no more but her memories are staying. Back to the bulb form she'll go again, hopefully to show her beauty another time or two. She is my first and most likely my only and has made me more aware of wondrous transformations in nature. Thank you for bearing with my repetitive photos, but I couldn't help making her a special photo project!

Paints

Yes, I did these with the old paint app. on my computer. All kinds of options are not used yet!  Good winter project to keep me in! Well I don't go out anyway except to get the mail.

It's fun to experiment.

Computer Painting Effort

This dang program will take hours for me to learn all it can do. Today I took the original photo as my study and then proceeded to paint one that might give me decent results. Well, I didn't get the leaves very well, but after doing one, I then completed another. Then I  merged them together just for fun!!

Two to Go....

What progress!  Wonderful scents are emitted! This is a study of growth and beauty. I'm hoping the first four blooms will last as long as it takes for the final two to open! Tickled Pink is a delightful beauty!

She likes looking through the window!

Through My Windows

The power company sends people to clean out and trim the tree branches and small limbs that threaten the electric and telephone and cable wires here. They haven't done it for several years. I have been trying to get a reasonably-priced tree trimmer to come and cut the limbs on the large spruce across the road as its branches impede my view of the dam road. They all were too expensive!

When these fellows (about 8 of them, three or four trucks and a supervisor) came today, I stepped out on my front porch and asked them if they would clip off the ones that block my view! They gave me a "Thumbs UP!" and went to work. Poor tree, but now I can see the entire road that goes across the dam. I like to look out and see who is coming and going.

My Schwan's delivery arrived just before the tree trimmers, the mail carrier much later in the day and the trash pickup wasn't done. Here are a "few" of the pictures - I didn't go outside - too cold for me!

And then I took a nap!

It’s snowing, it’s blowing, the heater is going..

I went to bed with a dream in my head

and woke up from where I was going.

A PENCIL MAKER TOLD THE PENCIL 5 IMPORTANT LESSONS JUST BEFORE PUTTING IT IN THE BOX :

1.) EVERYTHING YOU DO WILL ALWAYS LEAVE A MARK .

2.) YOU CAN ALWAYS CORRECT THE MISTAKES YOU MAKE.

3.) WHAT IS IMPORTANT IS WHAT IS INSIDE OF YOU.

4.) IN LIFE , YOU WILL UNDERGO PAINFUL SHARPENING, WHICH WILL ONLY MAKE YOU BETTER.

5.) TO BE THE BEST PENCIL, YOU MUST ALLOW YOURSELF TO BE HELD AND GUIDED BY THE HAND THAT HOLDS YOU.

AND THEN......I PAINTED THIS ON THE COMPUTER FROM SCRATCH. NEED MORE PRACTICE.

Tomorrow

Ralph Waldo Emerson

He said, “Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year. He is rich who owns the day, and no one owns the day who allows it to be invaded with fret and anxiety. Finish every day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities, no doubt crept in. Forget them as soon as you can, tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely, with too high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonsense. This new day is too dear, with its hopes and invitations, to waste a moment on the yesterdays.”

I would add, wait for it to happen and make the best of it if we can. We don't get to choose how life unfolds.

See opportunity in everything that comes your way.

Changed Her Name

Joyful Red is now Tickled Pink! She fooled me all seven weeks of watching her grow and develop. I am not at all familiar with this plant and assumed she would come out of her closet as red. NO! Today she showed her true color. After some research, I learned all of the different colors this plant can produce. Actually, I believe she is the "Apple Blossom" variety and am so pleased because that is one of the fragrances my mother loved.
I'm now going to call her "TICKLED PINK" because I love the surprise she gave me! See?
More buds to open!!!!
