Autumn "Regulars"

Every year on the beachfront grass under the large pine tree I have found many mushrooms growing. Maybe they are appearing on a regular basis due to the underground tree roots that must be huge, though hidden.

This morning a neighbor walked by with her beautiful young Portuguese Water Dog (puppy) and I asked her to please take a picture of this year's mushrooms as I know the lawn guy will mow them down in the afternoon.  I just really hesitate to ambulate down the incline to shoot them myself.

The results are very nice and she even captured some of the little asters that always flower here in September.

I did go through my 2021 images and found that I didn't send my buggy (the old green one) out to storage until November 2 so I hope to be able to do the same this year with the newer one. That will give me one more month to ride about and find pretty.

Heat's on!

A Very Good Day

It started off with my neighbor helping me - again!  Last week she removed the foam bed topper and mattress pad from the double bed. They went into a trash bag because it was way too soft for me to use. Today she put the new mattress pad on AFTER flipping and turning the mattress. I was no help at all. Then a sheet and I'm going to try it out tonight!

I decided to take a buggy ride and was hoping it wouldn't rain. The clouds were large and black when I started.

On my ride I 'saved' a 5" turtle that was in the middle of the road at the neighboring lake. I put it in the buggy basket and brought it home to make positive identification. I have just started learning the difference of two species of lake turtles here and didn't want to put it in my lake if it was of the invasive species.
I took photos but the stinker wouldn't stretch out its neck very far. However, I'm sure it is a painted turtle and I let it go. The following images are mine.

Then I used my stretchy new hose for the first time to spray off the dust on Buggy. I tried to remember what to turn on for water to flow and how to use it and then how to put it away. I dun gooood!

The postal carrier dropped off a special gift at my door while I was out riding. It was a box full of skin care goodies from a dear beach friend. Her mother just reached age 96 and I wanted to know her secrets. I anticipate using these very special items! More about them later.

Windy Snow Event March 2, 2018

Long day here. Electric power was out for only 6 hours. Yea for stand-by generators. No loss of cable or internet!! We stayed indoors, listened to the scanner and heard of many accidents, an impending heart attack, a lady in labor needing a trip to the hospital, and another severe health issue needing transportation.  We watched the winds blowing thick wet snow and saw the spiders clinging to their new web that I just hung out yesterday. The video is a bit long (2 minutes) but I haven't done one in a long time and needed the practice. It shows the winds best at the end. Below the video are photos sent to me by a neighbor who braved it out into the storm to get some marvelous pictures. She sent them to me and gave permission for me to show you. You will like them, I'm sure.

A small township truck with a plow in front came through once and later the big township road grader went by. They will be back for sure as is is still snowing and blowing at 6:00pm!

Friday At the Cabin

To the rescue!  Our neighbor up the road had a battery failure this morning. I looked out the window as I was drinking my coffee and I saw her PUSHING her golf cart off to the side of the road on top of the dam. She's 82 and was taking her dog for the usual early morning  ride. My Mister immediately got in our car and rode over to help her by towing it home. I'm gonna slap her if she hugs him any more than she did! Yes, we are all old friends. We felt her pain when we saw her standing there without power. Pushing it! Indeed!
After all of the drama, I took a short walk around to check on the growing things. All is well. The chives are in bloom, the white Geranium is thriving and the bees are being trapped. The jar in that contraption is filling fast. The one hanging at the other end of the cabin has started collecting these awful hole-drillers too. When the traps are full we will have to get someone to climb up and empty these wonderful inventions.

Oops!

This morning on the way out to town for laundry duty, we saw this - a neighbor's truck had slipped down his driveway into his home.  After returning, I got the camera and we went to see it again. He explained to me that he had stopped at the top and got out to get his mail, then got back in, took it out of park and it suddenly slid down! His two very young children were in the back seat. No one was hurt. It was a bit tricky to get everyone out and inside the home.  Sometimes the ice on the roads and driveways can fool ya! He had no idea they were in such danger.

He is explaining to me how it happened.
We had the scanner on last night and heard of icy road conditions throughout the area. Early this morning the cinder truck came by spreading the stuff and we were thankful for that. The tow truck just arrived and pulled the damaged truck out and took it away. I wonder how the house made out. It didn't look like there was serious harm to it when I took the pictures.
