Remembering Church Choir

“Calvary Song” As remembered by me when in Methodist Junior Choir, always sung as part of Easter. I remember both the words and the melody but cannot find it anywhere on the Internet.
^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^
The pilgrims strolled through the city gates ‘ere the night was falling fast.
They go to watch on calvary hill ‘till the twilight hours are past.

Tho’ dark be the way with eyes of hope,
They gaze on the cross above,

And lo, from each heart, the shadows depart,
As they gaze on his face above,
As they gaze on his face above.
.............................
Rest, rest to the weary, peace, peace to the soul,
Tho’ life may be dreary, earth is not thy goal.

Oh come to me children, lift, lift up thine eyes
I will not forsake thee,
I will not forsake thee,
I will not forsake thee,
Though all else shall flee, though all else shall flee.

Some of the words may be incorrect and I believe there was another verse. The memory has lingered in my head for all of these years since 1952. Then music was played on a huge pipe organ and the choir master was Mr. Welch. We sang with great inspiration. He was a motivator and dedicated leader.

I’m not even sure it was considered a hymn. Maybe the Organist/Choir Master wrote it!
UPDATE:
My friend found the original for me!

Bouquet for Me

"Alstroemeria commonly called the Peruvian lily or lily of the Incas, is a genus of flowering plants in the family Alstroemeriaceae. They are all native to South America although some have become naturalized in the United States, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Madeira and the Canary Islands." From Wikipedia

I have just received a lovely Spring/Easter bouquet from my daughter who lives nearby. I really care not for cut flowers EXCEPT Daffodils and Alstroemeria. The Alstroemeria last almost a month in the water that has been treated with a packet that came with the bouquet.

This year's are exceptionally beautiful and make me feel happy.

These are last year's blooms...

This is one from two years ago!

Easter Good Old Days....

Since I'm working on my old albums now, I thought you might enjoy seeing these. In 1962 we were a family of four children on Easter.
In 1966 the girls got new hats, coats and dresses and the boys new jackets and ties.
My family in 1968 There is one missing because he didn't arrive until October. Notice we couldn't replace the old outfits of the girls for about 4 years but they never complained. New shoes  for all HAD to be purchased and new jackets and pants for the boys who seemed to grow faster than the girls.
Easter today shows a GREAT GREAT Grandson enjoying a cupcake! His Great Grandfather is the boy pushing the cart in the photo above.

Snowy Easter Sunday

And we thought it was gone! It came down harder soon after I took these pictures.

A couple of hours later, the Mister had to put the truck into four wheel drive to get us out of the lake and onward for a great ham dinner at our daughter's home.

The frozen road had softened over the past few days and now was a muddy slushy mess. We met two cars full of people stuck. We had to backtrack and go out an alternate route. This is what happens in April when the frost starts to leave. One year, back a while ago, the school bus buried itself in foot deep soft mud ruts. It took a large piece of construction equipment to pull it out.

Well, it is a transition that occurs annually and sometimes we forget all of the other good things about living in the country. Time will take care of mud and snow and then we'll move into our beautiful spring months and forget all about muddy roads - until next year.

Last year we took a ride through the countryside on Easter Sunday - quite a difference, eh?

And not to forget how the children were dressed for church in 1962. There were only 4 then.

And 1966. I notice stockings and gloves on the girls and tie clips on the boys.

Of course the girls wore hats.

Easter Day Rideabout

The first thing I wanted to do was to re-shoot the wheel fence but there is no place to park to get great pictures. Oh well...

We passed an old farmhouse that has been renovated. I do not like the blue tin roof! Notice the stained glass window on each side, is a nice touch.

The barn siding caught my eye.

How about the "tractor color parade" having a mailbox to match!

This very old schoolhouse has been vacated but someone is maintaining it well.
Last year I trespassed to get the serpentine rock wall and now I see that three more sculptures have been added.

Moss grows everywhere.
The rushing stream is not to its fullest ability to flow as when the snow was melting.

This fence form is a style from long ago and is still popular.

I see two small trees here that have survived the harsh winter.

Thinking Back..

The children eventually numbered six, but back in 1966 there were four - all dressed up for Easter Sunday. I notice stockings and gloves on the girls and tie clips on the boys.

There was snow still on the ground in northern New Jersey that day, but not one of the youngsters looked cold or uncomfortable.

Yes, times have changed.
