The Lake

This goose got left behind. It was swimming all over looking for others who had left last week.

My neighbor up the road allows me to share her pictures. They show some of the beauty we both see upon rising. Living close to our lake is so uplifting, especially in the early morning.
Just a reminder . . . .

Understanding yourself is power
Loving yourself is freedom
Forgiving yourself is peace
Being yourself is bliss

This came from a favorite SC meteorologist.

Eagle Feast

Some don't believe or have never heard of geese getting stuck in icy slush. We saw it happen on November 29, 2014 and when it died, the opportunist predators came to eat it. I took many photos, but none were very sharp. Here are a couple to show you an eagle enjoying its dinner. Other birds of prey came when he wasn't there and they ate the goose too. Soon there was nothing left but a pile of feathers.

At least the small flock I observed yesterday was finally able to get free or it would have been a tragedy, even though we are not fond of geese on our grassy banks in the summer!

A Freezing Day

CCCCold! Well it is 5° above and when I looked out the window this morning I was surprised to see that the lake froze over during the night. There was a single Canada goose that seemed to be stuck a few feet out from our beachfront. He sat there looking around and then settled back down. I thought that he perhaps would soon be a victim of the resident bald eagles, wondering which would do him in first - the ice or the predators. I had my camera ready.

Don’t you know that after about ten minutes he stood up, and walked on the ice, out of my view! He wasn’t stuck at all.

Today I baked a dozen of tasty applesauce muffins. I had a small bit of batter left so I make a thirteenth one in a little pan. We ate that one!
If no one stops in today, they will all be popped into the freezer and enjoyed another time.

A breakfast party presentation would be fun, don’t you think?

Blue Skies and Flying Critters

This Monarch butterfly landed on my hand when I was riding in my golf cart. it seemed too be disoriented but flew way fine after I put it on the ground.

I'll most likely use one of these as a background texture for  new "creation" soon.

And then I went back to "bird island."

A loose goose????!!!!  Who are you?

Goose Egg

We found this note that was written on Wednesday, March 26 by our daughter, Missy, who lives across town. She always stops in the cabin to turn up the heater a few days before we arrive.  As usual, she left homemade foods for us. In the past she has left baked mac & cheese or a ham and potato casserole or meatloaf so I won't have to cook the night of our long ride back. She doesn't usually leave a note and we don't usually leave the bridge lamp on, either!

The soup was delicious, turkey vegetable, and we haven't yet tried the goose egg. The dozen of brown eggs were also nice to have. Her neighbor has her take care of the chickens when she leaves and she can have all of the eggs during the time. She has to hunt and find them as the chickens are free roaming and lay eggs everywhere.

This is the goose egg.

This is the goose and Missy.
