A Not So Good Day

I am punished for bragging about my microwave lasting so long. It went belly up overnight. Karma?

From my Good Day post: "Maybe I can save up enough to replace the ancient tin shower stall next year...that is IF the 38 year old GE microwave oven, which was a gift from my husband and some of our kids as my 1985 Christmas present will keep functioning. I use the microwave oven at least twice a day! Yes I do! It is a real survivor."

Yes, this morning I filled my cup with cold water, a Constant Comment tea bag, put it in the microwave and set the timer to 3 minutes. punched the buttons. NADA! I opened and closed the door several times, reset the timer, checked the plug and the circuit breaker, talked to it.....NADA. It just DIED!

I found a replacement on the internet and have it ordered to arrive April 3. I HOPE! One page showed it was out of stock but a message to the supplier says, "Hi Reed, This should be shipping tomorrow morning with arrival on April 4."

I will show it to you after arrival. It is a bit 'different' and smaller too!

My friend (I couldn't do without her help) came to the rescue later today and took away the deceased for the recycling center. I hope it had a nice ride.

Don't Fall!

Joyce is my 72 year old sister. She fell last week, breaking both arms, cutting her chin and is incapacitated for a while. She slipped and fell at home in the morning in her bathroom. Now both arms are in casts. I was so sorry to hear this. I know how it feels to have such pain and not be able to function but I only broke my humerus and rotator cup. I had function of one arm even if I'm not left handed. How horrible it must be to have someone have to do everything for you until you can do it by yourself. Think on it.  Think hard on it. When we age a broken "anything" is bad and I plead with you be very careful and don't fall and break anything. I remember what a shock it was to me when I went down so unexpectedly. I had a difficult time believing I fell so suddenly and felt so shocked.

The good news is that she has a very caring husband and girlfriend who are attending to her every need - and some of them are difficult for both the caregivers and her. Think on it. Think of not being able to use either arm in addition to being in pain. Don't fall!

Poor Camera!

Do NOT drop your camera! Especially if you know all about how to use it and love your results.

I purchased mine on January 28, 2008. Yes, it is almost five years old, but looks like it is twenty!

It was not a very expensive one to start with but it was chosen because it fits my "shooting hand and fingers" just right. You see, my hand was badly mangled in a saw in 1980 but functions OK except for holding on to things and not dropping them.

I think I read the owner's manual so many times, and have attached sticky notes on the pages I refer back to often, that it is just about worn out. On page 9 it cautions to not subject the camera to impact or shock.

I have taken exceptional care of it, always using the neck strap and protecting the lens and the liquid crystal monitor - always. It is returned to its carry bag every time after use.

Well... don't you know, that about a year ago I dropped it! In my bedroom! On the hard, tile covered concrete floor! I had left it on the desk and my hand caught the strap that was hanging over the edge.

The battery compartment lid flew one way and the little mode dial went the other. After finding them, I was aghast that the cover's little latches were gone, and the mode dial wouldn't snap back in place, being way too loose.

It has been "repaired" by me, and still functions correctly, but is a pain when I have to change modes and batteries. Oh well... Yea! for filament packing tape and Scotch tape.

I have used my computer to take photos of my repairs so you can see them.
