Recent Family Activities

Grandson's girlfriend caught this 17" - 3 lb. bass the other evening when they came over to go fishing in the boat. She also caught another and as she was reeling it in the resident snapping turtle tried to grab it away. It was an exciting evening for sure! They don't keep their catches and throw them back. She took these photos.
More news came from a grandson in NJ who has just been accepted to the University of Tampa for his continuing education. I don't know who took the picture and didn't ask him if I could use it so I cropped it a little!
A granddaughter is honing in her art skills. This is a pretty one!
This Muscovy duck wandered into my daughter's yard and she has no idea where it came from! It looks to me as if it has had a rough time! Missy also tells me that a great blue heron is stealing her Koi fish right out of her backyard pond!
A NJ daughter moved into a smaller home and had a 64th birthday. She's been VERY busy!
Our local daughter joined her for the celebration. She just turned 60.
And the twins are doing well.
That's enough catchup for today.

Busy Mornings

Yesterday morning we G.I.'d the entire kitchen table and all contents. It took all morning! We each have a tray with handy items we use everyday. His tray has paperwork, several medicine things, a police scanner and more. Mine has eyeglasses, calculator, and other assorted stuff like a handy-dandy nailclipper and a chapstick. The spinning round table holds salt, pepper, sugar, butter, meds, pens, pencils, and more. This old table is both desk and dining. Placemats, napkins, and plastic cover are other necessary and handy items for easy cleanup. It is where I set up my laptop computer between meals and paperwork. He also has his binoculars and paper towel nearby.

Today, the Mister took his empty prescription containers to the two places we use for refills. At the local hospital, he was checked for temperature and was asked questions before allowed to enter. Then he was given a face mask and admitted to the pharmacy area. After a short wait getting those refilled, from there he went to town to Rite-Aid to pick up another one that we knew was ready. They were kind enough to enclose three over-the-counter items at the drive up window as well. He didn't have to enter the store!

A trip to the bank drive-up window resulted in refilling his wallet with some cash.

We filled out and mailed our primary absentee ballots today.

We trapped our first shrew. This is a tiny little critter with a very long nose and is mouse-like. The photo below is from the internet.
One of our Nephews has had his recent picture selected for the cover of a fisherman's magazine. He didn't say how much this drum weighed when he first posted the photo. He's an avid fisherman!
I started picking at the turkey breast that I roasted for dinner yesterday. Not finished yet, but will certainly make soup with those good bones!

I balanced checkbooks and am now preparing lunch. Dessert will be strawberry shortcake. I still have several bags of strawberries in the freezer, plus Cool Whip and sliced pound cake.

Are you bored yet?

Assorted Mix

I don't know which is prettier or more interesting than fishes and flowers! What do you think? Animal pets are also delightful!
My 18 year old Great Nephew
Just for fun, look at a Granddaughter's tiny velociraptor. Pretty little thing isn't it? It is hanging on to her finger!
..... and how about a neighbor's newly adopted dog!

Lake Fishing Story

Ever since he was a very young boy, our grandson loved to go fishing. He often caught many different species. Through the years our lake has had Largemouth Bass, Bluegill, White Crappie, Black Crappie, Yellow Perch, Walleye, Chain Pickerel, Brown Bullhead and even Channel Catfish. I'm not sure how many still are waiting to be hooked, but we sure know that the Bass are the most popular! I went digging in old files and found a few of him and his fish.

In July 2009 he was in a terrible car accident and the injuries were severe and life threatening.
Fishing helped with his healing, both mind and body. Growing large pumpkins was another helpful activity.

Active Family

First of all, I must say that our son has always been a car buff. When he was a young child and then a teen he built many model cars from kits. It is just now as he approaches the age of 60 that he decided to finally have his dream car. He drove here over the weekend for some showtime visits; so proud and happy!

And we have a grandson who looks like a plumber! He actually was attempting to remove an embedded hook from his mother's fish.
Then he needed to carry the boat battery to the charger after catching another nice fish.
Just too much excitement for me. I'll go take flower pictures now.

Alex the Fisherman

His bass was 17 1/2 " and I already forgot what it weighed but it sure was the heaviest this year for the Lake's annual Independence Day Fishing Derby. As you can see, the Mister took it in 2008 and Alex in 2013.  Somehow the first trophy, containing the names of several more winners since the annual contest started is missing! I have a picture of it somewhere and will look. Together Alex and his girlfriend caught a total of 16 bass in that one day and threw them all back.
