Snow Event

Well all I can say is that it was a nuisance in our neck of the woods. Heavy wet stuff - I almost feel that we got home-free this time. Winds and dropped temperatures are still forecast but as I WRITE - THE SUN IS almost OUT!

Snowblower machines and old muscle men do not like heavy wet snow.
End of story...

Typical Winter Day

The hambone is in the large pot and will simmer all day. After I remove the bone, the broth will be put outside overnight. Tomorrow the morning I'll skim off the fat layer that came to the top. Then I'll put the dried split peas and chopped onions in and simmer them until they have all completely turned to mush. Salt and pepper will be added. It is a time consuming, but not laborious project and always a wonderful and tasty treat for us. Two and one half quarts of delicious soup!

While this is happening indoors, the Mister is completing the driveway blow out with his new machine that was used only once last year.  A nearby neighbor with his truck-plow has generously opened the drive at the roadside. The neighbor's wife even asked if we needed anything from town as she was making a trip in. How nice is is to be thought of in these ways.
The reflection of the storm window annoys me!

Sad news...We just got word that our wonderful vet, Doctor Joe has died. He is so loved by the entire community as he was an extremely caring and nice man. He took care of our pets, both large and small for over 25 years!

"In 1962, DrJoseph C. Crowley graduated from Auburn University's College of Veterinary Medicine and returned to his hometown to practice. He began a career based on the principles of hard work, empathy and respect for pet owners and their animals, and honest, dependable service."

Blah Day

No, I'm not depressed, just bored. It rained some last night, froze on the truck and ground overnight, snowed on top of that, and caused more backaches for the Mister. The best part is that we don't have to drive to work these days. Yea! The second best part is that we continue to have power and that means I bake while he blows snow.

Today it is a batch (from scratch, of course) of oatmeal raisin cookies. Do you know how expensive butter is? Well, this recipe calls for two sticks. Butter makes them just the right consistency and gives the best flavor. YES! I made exactly 66 of these this morning and we ate 6, of course. Gotta keep nice numbers.

You would have laughed at me stirring and fighting the mixing in of the oatmeal and raisins! These delights are labor intensive for me. They are worth the work. The Mister had to clear out the end of our short driveway twice today because the road department really plugs it every time they go by. The first clear out at 9AM consisted of very large and frozen clumps and was a labor intensive project for him as well.

Guess what! It's snowing A G A I N !!!!

Groundhog Day

Well that dang groundhog is lying if he says he saw his shadow today! No matter what, we all know there will be six more weeks of winter!

Thirty years ago our middle daughter was married. It was a nice clear and fine day for her wedding.

Today her father is still blowing snow at almost 80 years of age. "You can't keep a good man down."  HOW TRUE!! (I have no excuses for staying inside.)
