Where are the Ruby Throats?
Our hummers don't seem to have ruby throats! Why? We have many and only once in a while there is a smaller one with a slim band of white around its neck. Sometimes there are two or three like this one, each on a perch on the same feeder drinking to their heart's content! They prefer the red base glass feeder over the yellow glass ball feeder but they all come regularly. There is some bombing and zipping but mostly they drink. I have to refill the feeders about every three or four days.

I read somewhere that the females arrive about 3-4 weeks earlier than the males. Maybe the guys'll show up soon.
ReplyDeleteWell if these are females they outnumber males 20-1 as we have seen a couple of smaller blacker ones with tiny narrow white bands around throat but no red at all.
