Yesterday..

I saw something across the lake on the rocks at the edge of the water. Wanting to know what it was, I went out on the front porch and took this picture. It soon flew away. I was lucky to be able to identify it, though.

The adults live nearby because we see them flying over the lake often. They have also been spotted in nearby trees and even on the ice when a discarded fish is left by the  fishermen. One even ate most of a goose that was trapped in the ice and we watched it happen. We think they nest somewhere beyond the dam and wonder how many are there.
