Quick Ride

I had the day planned for our grandson and his partner to come and strip and clean my bedroom. Major job, because neither one of us can get on our knees to do it properly and thoroughly and it really needed doing! They said they would be a little later than 10:00am to start so I decided to take an early quick ride-about on this snappy brisk morning. Donning my lambswool scarf, hand-knitted hat and gloves along with two jackets, off I went with the camera. Well, I sure was glad to return and get warmed back up. This getting old is taking some of my tuff- stuff away!  Anyway, here are my images for today. We are almost ready; just have yet to cover the air conditioner, the porch swing and the golf car. They are next in line for winter protection.

I guess the farmer forgot to gather his pumpkins and cut down the corn!

The bedroom is clean clean clean!
Yeow ~ what a fine job they did. It wasn't easy with all my things that needed to be moved out first!  Remember that all walls here are logs! The floors are asbestos tile from the 1960's over a concrete slab.

Our Helpers

Along with each of them working a full week at a local wood cabinet manufacturing plant, doing side jobs in carpentry, taking care of her ailing family members and finding time for each other, our grandson and his girlfriend arrived this morning to carry on the beam cleaning and stuff-dusting in this old cabin. We can no longer keep up and do not climb ladders now. What a wonderful thing is is to have "helpers" who seem to enjoy assisting us with the mundane but necessary annual spring cleaning. They did the "other end" in the kitchen area exactly a month ago. Thanks to Alex and Denise we are back in shape here and really appreciate the cooperation they have working together, to get the job finished.

Cookies and Cleaning

Today it is raining and very cool. It's such a perfect day for cookie baking and bathroom cleaning. The Mister is keeping busy with a complete GI job and will soon get a tasty treat.

This recipe will use my supply of brown sugar and raisins. Restocking ingredients like these is an ongoing update of cupboard foodstuffs.

These are what I call "cakey cookies" because they aren't chewy except for the raisins.

SIMPLE Raisin Cookies
Preheat oven to 375° and place the oven rack in the center of the oven. Line baking sheets with parchment paper or "Release" foil.

In the bowl of your electric mixer, beat together the flour, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon. Add the brown sugar, softened butter, egg, milk, and vanilla extract and beat for one minute. Add the raisins and beat until incorporated.

Drop the batter by heaping teaspoonfuls onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing the cookies a couple of inches apart. Bake the cookies for about 8 - 10 minutes, or until the tops of the cookies are just barely touched with color yet the edges are golden brown. Remove from oven and transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool.  Makes about 4 dozen cookies.

Ingredients:

2 cups all purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup light brown sugar (or dark)
1 1/2 sticks softened butter
1 large egg
1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 cup dark raisins (or golden raisins)
