Opportunist

The campground is packed this week. It is the Harley Spring Rally and there are thousands of them in the area. Many are here as this is the only campground that allows them to camp with their bikes at their sites and to also ride in, out and about when they are here. The newest campers don't seem to realize that there are many critters sharing the space, so they will learn the hard way. I won't post photos of the bikes, but believe me - they are beautiful full dressers!

All trees have squirrel appendages like these two.

Crazy Mix Here

Cactus and Cole Slaw and COLD CLAW?

I returned home, played at being Suzy Homemaker for a bit before going out to find another treasure. (I make my own cole slaw because the southern type doesn't suit me, and share with other friends who feel the same. Thank goodness for a food processor!

Out again!

This guy seems to have something wrong with his left foot, but after I took his picture and rode around the loop, he had disappeared when I returned and was nowhere to be seen. At first I thought it was a yard decoration. I have no idea what kind of turtle this is but it seems to be an old guy (girl?). There are no lakes, ponds, or streams in this area. I think he is lost.

Agave AGAIN!

Sure hope I stay long enough to see this bloom!

This time it is located in an open area "up on hill" and not hidden in trees like the previous one.

I will post again as it grows and develops further. 

The owner told me the plant is only 4 years old! So much for being called "the century plant!"

The "pups" are already emerging at the base of the plant.

Natural Beach Erosion

These pictures were on the local TV news station Last night. It is an area that I have walked along for many many years and is devastating to me.  The natural destruction of a natural area - erosion of the sand and dunes and raping of our protective sea oats. The good part is that there was not more damage. Glad I can no longer walk that far to see it in person.

This is an area where I found so many shark's teeth in the past 25 years.

Yesterday: She's comin' through...not to worry much. Wind feels great blowing cobwebs out of head! Invigorating! Love her.

It's official! Ana made landfall at 6am today midway between North Myrtle Beach and Myrtle Beach. It took all night for her to get here and it will take all day for her to get out. We expect more showers and gusty winds. Exciting! I'll try to stay dry and won't be able to take pictures. :(

POKE!

Poke Cake

One yellow cake mix (or lemon)
One vanilla instant pudding mix (or lemon)
Mix the cake mix as instructed and add the dry pudding mix.
     Mix together and hold:
     One can Eagle brand sweetened condensed milk. 14 oz.
     One can/container cream of coconut. (about 15 oz. size)
Bake cake in 9 x 13” pan for 35 minutes in 350° oven.
AFTER the cake is baked, immediately, while hot,  punch holes in top and pour mix into holes.
Let set until cool.
Put in refrigerator overnight.
Then add cool whip when served.
Keep refrigerated.

Give and Get

I brought a bag of buttons along on this trip to give to a fellow collector of beach glass, shark's teeth, shells, and other oddities. Another friend found them in a home she was cleaning out of all sorts of discarded stuff and thought I might like to have them. I told her, no but I knew someone who would.
She did! The picture below is one she took to show friends soon after receiving the bagful.

The other day, the recipient of the buttons brought out a chunk of green glass to show me that she had salvaged from a broken-down and decaying old hippie van. The dilapidated piece of junk had been abandoned on a piece of property belonging to her relative many years ago. It was never explored until recently. All sorts of junk was in it and this piece took her eye, though she had no idea what it was. She brought it here to show me.

I knew exactly what it was and admired its pretty color and sparkling interior minute bubbles. She then gave it to me!

The reason I knew was from discussions with my brother who was called a glass artist because he repaired and polished fine crystal and glassware at antique shows and privately. He also did the following along with creative artistry:

* Marbles ground and damage is removed.
* Stoppers are fitted into bottles. 
* Daubers are made for perfume bottles. 
* Chips are removed from the rims or bases of wine glasses, vases.
* Decanters are tumbled clean.
