#1497 Autumn is on the Horizon

The trees and grass are still green, but other signs forecast that summer is starting to terminate.
The Sedum are in full bloom, turning bright pink and falling over.
Soon the porch swing will be covered and the boat taken down.
The spread of the stems reveals spider nests.
Portulaca grew way too tall due to the wetness this year and is finished pushing out the pretty multicolored blossoms.
You can see the true color pink in the porch shadow.
A closer look is nicer.
The fern did well with the wetness but is turning brown now.
No more hummingbirds have been seen for three days. The pine cone wreath needs to be refurbished as the other birds have plucked it for nest materials early in the spring.
Beauty at its best.
The pollinators are hard at work.
I see many doing the job and that is a very good thing.
Henry stands proud but his contents are drooping and falling off more than usual.
I'm going to slice off a couple of leaves and try to root them for next year. It might work. I'll talk them into it!
James stands undressed waiting for his preservation treatment.

S L O W.....

Every day I look at the Portulaca I planted on May 16 for signs of a bloom. Well, today there are 2! These poor things have stretched to the sky looking for a dryout and more sun for 46 days! Thank goodness they show promise of additional pretty blossoms. Usually there is one on each shoot at the same time; they have never grown so tall before!

Even the Martha Washington Geraniums have suffered this year.

All Hosta in the surrounding area are HUGE! Ours is about to bloom. The hummingbirds love these.
The ferns love the wet weather conditions for sure!
5:00pm June 27. Lake weed control coming past. They caught me unprepared and my pictures aren't that sharp. This is done at least twice a year.

Sunny Saturday

The fern and lily of the valley plants are really growing now. I even found one little hyacinth smashed over by fallen daffodil leaves. There is hope for the lonely iris by the porch. The huge crop of them on the beachfront is developing nicely. James has had a change of attire and the flag is out for the holiday weekend. All is well.
Feel free to pluck some of the lilies. There are plenty to go around and the fragrance is delightful.

Happy 62nd birthday to my firstborn today! She tells me she can't retire yet but hopes to very soon.
