Early Morning Movement

As I was drinking coffee and watching the movement of the lake waters I saw activity on the bank. As far as I could see, there were 4 long bodied critters climbing the frosty bank and going across the road down into the area behind the dam. At first I just watched and my curiosity was fired up so I grabbed the camera, zoomed out to see better. I have determined that they were either muskrats or otters  but definitely not beaver. THEN! I saw another dark head moving but it never came totally out or went up the bank. I hope you can see the trail they made through the grass as they went up and over. I apologize for the images not being very clear but it really is a long way from the cabin to the area over there! I regret that I didn't capture the crossing activity. They looked to be having family fun.

The next activity I saw was a loose dog. That wasn't interesting except it did cause me to wonder where it came from because all residents I see in this area walk theirs with leashes and pick up the droppings. Oh well.

It is our first frost. Dang!

Winter's Woe is Me

Cantankerous! Yes, I am that!  I really don't know why except I'm sooo tired of winter and cold and needing ambition. By ambition, I mean doing things that need doing here and which are staring me in my face and are not getting done - like vacuuming and window washing. Phooey - Bah - Humbug. So I got out the vacuum cleaner and it is still sitting in the dining room. I might just give it a kick and feel better. Photos today didn't even help but I AM pleased that the big snow event skipped here! And the sun is out!

The front storm door has pretty frosting. What that really means is that cold is sneaking in between the cabin door and the storm door. Oh well... Every once in a while I open it as a safety procedure just to be sure it will function if needed.

P.S. temperature was -6° at 8am!

First Frost

It's hard to explain the beauty of the mist rising up from the lake early in the morning of the first frost. As the sun rises, the glare is almost unbearable.

This afternoon when it warms up a bit I'll dig out the tuberous begonias and dry and save the tubers for next year.
And I'm still at it. BOO!

Tuesday Morning

Our first real frost! And, the lake is really cooling down. My view through the dining room window this morning at 8am inspired me to go out and enjoy the fresh cold air.

Frosty and Windy

And only 2° at 6:45 am! There must be a tiny leak around our front storm door because when I went out to capture the windy lake steam that was blowing wildly, I first saw the frost. It is beautiful! The first image is my favorite. They are shown as they came from the camera and are untouched.

And the chimes ringing in the video are very old ones that my brother made years ago. They are really noisy when the wind blows.
