Gifts

Yesterday my daughter visited, bringing flowers from her garden and a tiny Honeynut squash, some baby swiss chard, homemade chicken vegetable soup and a sweater. I really got a kick watching her pick out vessels to contain the flowers. She chose two of my favorites that are always out and ready to be used. One is the wobble top mug and the other the fantastic pinch cup, a/k/a Tuscarora Trout Beer Tumbler. My friend the potter, says it this way: " I create works that matter for people who care." Oh yes, we care.....  Now he is doing most of his work on the treadle wheel.

Size of a teaspoon!
FYI, the swiss chard is better (MOP) than spinach.  Well, after a visit, she went fishing - nothing caught this time. I shared some of my elderberry syrup, raisin walnut cookies, candy fudge, and other items. Oh! Forgot to tell you she brought me some vanilla ice cream so I can have a bowlful with my syrup! Just gotta get through the winter so can make more of that stuff next Fall. Her older brother turned 65 yesterday. I am now really feeling the aging devil.

Recent Family Activities

Grandson's girlfriend caught this 17" - 3 lb. bass the other evening when they came over to go fishing in the boat. She also caught another and as she was reeling it in the resident snapping turtle tried to grab it away. It was an exciting evening for sure! They don't keep their catches and throw them back. She took these photos.
More news came from a grandson in NJ who has just been accepted to the University of Tampa for his continuing education. I don't know who took the picture and didn't ask him if I could use it so I cropped it a little!
A granddaughter is honing in her art skills. This is a pretty one!
This Muscovy duck wandered into my daughter's yard and she has no idea where it came from! It looks to me as if it has had a rough time! Missy also tells me that a great blue heron is stealing her Koi fish right out of her backyard pond!
A NJ daughter moved into a smaller home and had a 64th birthday. She's been VERY busy!
Our local daughter joined her for the celebration. She just turned 60.
And the twins are doing well.
That's enough catchup for today.

The Gift

YAY! Today our daughter brought us a large Oxheart tomato from her garden. I have written about these many times before. I save the seeds, she and her sister in NJ plant and tend to these beauties every year. This year she is having a terrible time with the deer gobbling them up right in her front yard as they ripen. There WILL be a fence next year. Did I say they are meaty and VERY low acid and wonderful?

Like Mother, Like Daughter....

She has a good eye and has lots of time to perfect her skills at snapping shutters. These are my daughter's pictures. Her green thumb is featured here and her love of nature is prevalent! Neither of us is a professional - in fact we are really amateurs with inexpensive equipment but the results are acceptable, don't you think? Her name is Missy.
Can you see the wasp in the lower left blossom?
Can you see it now?
Luna Moths visit her often
Good for her garden!
She caught a Crappie in friend's pond
Zoey guards the garden but doesn't chase the deer. She plays with them!

Memorial Day Memories

It's a rainy day and it is still for remembering our veterans who have served our country in all branches of the armed forces. I'm very proud to be an American and hope you are too.

Looking back, 60 years ago, this son was born and was in the
United States Navy when a young man.

Looking back, I cannot forget that our youngest son joined the
United States Air Force 30 years ago!

Looking back, on this date 57 years ago, our sweet and beautiful
daughter Missy came into this world.

Looking back, and I cannot forget that I fell and shattered my shoulder five years ago on Memorial Day weekend; just another kind of remembering.....

Bloomin' Beautiful

I showed you a few of our daughter's flowers previously.  We took a ride there today and saw some more different ones in bloom.

Today the visit was more personal as she had another back surgery on July 7 and is just now getting around a bit. A short walk with her showing the latest blooms was very enjoyable.
Here are a few of many.

Missy - HD 720p

Missy had her eighth surgery on July 7. Her condition is very good today, and she'll be home in a day or two. Back problems have been serious for several years but she keeps on going. I'm VERY proud of her. Besides being a daughter and sister, she is a wife, a mother, an animal lover, a wonderful cook and a talented gardener.

Groundhog Day

Well that dang groundhog is lying if he says he saw his shadow today! No matter what, we all know there will be six more weeks of winter!

Thirty years ago our middle daughter was married. It was a nice clear and fine day for her wedding.

Today her father is still blowing snow at almost 80 years of age. "You can't keep a good man down."  HOW TRUE!! (I have no excuses for staying inside.)
